gather(ings)--CA, NY, 2017-2020
Throughout time and history, humans have found ways to gather. The installation mirrors the human compass inside each of us that points out toward each other. It is an homage to humanity, to inclusive communities and to the sacred spaces that house these gatherings.
This work invites the viewer to become a part of a timeless human tradition. Interact freely with the abstract sculptural figures, and celebrate the place you find yourself. Immersed within a group, strengthened by the power of connection and unity.
At a time of widening cultural dissent and interpersonal disconnection, the work reminds us that humans have solved a great many problems by simply gathering to discuss. Shadows pitched on the ground by the overhead lighting (interior) or natural sunlight (exterior) play with the passage of time and allude to those who have gathered before (and will gather after) on this site.
